Durga Puja In Moscow

Namaskar,

Durga puja celebration in Moscow from a humble beginning 17 years back has evolved into a tradition. Though the autumn brings chill in the air, we Indians looks for the warmth that Durga Puja promises to bring along.

For some it is an opportunity to offer ‘pushpanjali’ or praying for the well being of their near and dear, for many kids it means hanging around with their friends at odd time, for some it is the thrill of playing raffle, for others it an opportunity to win prizes in lucky draw, many enjoy the cultural events performed by people from the sub-continent and equally enthusiastic and talented Russians. And for the puja committee these are the anxious days for they want to be sure that all go well. But without doubt everybody freaks out on ‘puchkas’ and ‘chat’ and all other yummy goodies during ‘Ananda Mela’.

This celebration is also a forum for the Diaspora to exhibit the inventory of their creative talents. Kids participate in drawing and writing competitions and also we bring out a journal AARATRIKA. Please do ask for a copy of the journal.

Swami Jyotirupananda of the Ramkrishna Mission in Moscow is the president of Durgapuja committee and he supervises the religious ceremonies. Kendriya Vidyalaya, Moscow and JNCC Moscow actively participate in the cultural programs and Mrs. Ambassador has traditionally been the Patron of Durga Puja celebrations.

Had it not been for the generous contribution from the business community, individuals, the Durga puja committee ‘evangelists’ and well-wishers Durga Puja celebrations would not have been what it is today.

This year Durga Puja falls from 18th October to 20th of October. The puja will be held at the Interclub in the Russian Peoples Friendship University campus (21, Mikhluka Maklaya Street, Moscow).

We would request you all to come and take the blessings of Ma Durga and enjoy the celebrations. Elders can immerse themselves in the nostalgia of puja celebrations back home and children can get a whiff of what puja is all about.

Looking forward to meet you.

With warm regards,

Durga Puja Committee
